Our take
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 score 79/100 and pack Google's most impressive AI tricks into the smallest, lightest earbuds they've ever made β shrunk 24% lighter and 27% smaller than the originals without sacrificing capability.
The custom Tensor A1 chip handles Gemini Live for natural back-and-forth conversations, Live Translate for real-time language translation during face-to-face interactions, and 2x stronger ANC that adapts to your environment β all without a subscription fee. 8 hours of battery with ANC active, 30 hours total with the charging case. Performance scores a strong 87/100, and the sound quality with the 11mm custom driver punches well above its weight class against more expensive competitors.
In the AI Earbuds lineup, they trail the AirPods Pro 3 (84) and Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro (80) in overall score, but they're the only earbuds with Gemini Live baked in for conversational AI. No heart rate tracking sensor though, and Spatial Audio implementation isn't as polished as Apple's head-tracked version. The best AI features require a Pixel phone to unlock fully.
At $229 MSRP, the street price at Amazon is already $199.99, and they've been spotted under $170 during promotional periods. Momentum says "Fair price" but shopping around between Google Store, Best Buy, and Amazon can save you $30-60 right now depending on the day.
Bottom line: Buy if you're an Android user and find them under $200 β excellent value for AI-powered earbuds with no subscription, especially if you own a Pixel phone for the full Gemini experience.
